- 시기상으로는 빅토리아 시대이지만 현대시인으로 간주될 때도 있음

- 당대에는 작품발표 거의 안 됨

- 1918년 Robert Bridges에 의해 시집 발표

◈ Victoria시와는 다른 강력한 이미지, 특이한 언어구조, 새로운 리듬

- 현대시 형성에 영향 끼침

- 그러나 주제적인 면(종교적 갈등, 자연 속의 신성 파악)은 빅토리아적

In the first place, these poems addressed themselves powerfully

to one of the strongest of my pleasurable susceptibilities, the

love of rural objects and natural scenery;

rate-landscape does it more effectually than any poet. What

feeling, and of thought colored by feeling, under the excitement

of beauty.

shared in by all human beings; which had no connection with

struggle or imperfection, but would be made richer by every

improvement in the physical or social conditiion of mankind.
